The garden cultivates well known and historical poisons like Nightshade and Hemlock, the plant that killed Socrates. They also grow toxic plants that often fly under the radar like Angels Trumpets and Foxglove, as the unassuming can often be the most dangerous. My initial logo sketches focused on combining popular witchcraft symbology with vegetal forms. I looked at imagery often associated with botany and traditional witches' sigils to form my early compositions. The final mark that I landed on combines a sinister all-seeing eye with radiating leaf-like forms. This book highlights the variety of plants that are tended to at the Alnwick Garden. Each plant gets its own spread, with a full color illustration highlighting the details and beauty of its form. I customized the type for each header spread, and strove to create interesting compositions by intertwining the typography with the organic shapes of the flora. <img width="2459" height="1440" to design a website homepage, tickets, and small souvenirs. The website homepage shows the flexibility in the brand application, and how the organic nature of the brand can still be shown in a web format. As a potential gift shop bestseller, I designed a set of three scented tinctures from some of the more perfumed floral at the Alnwick. The tinctures are meant for aromatherapeutic purposes, so if you try to poison someone with them it unfortunately wouldn't be too effective. Modusu is meant to soothe and rejuvenate the skin through the practice of Kampo, an ancient Japanese practice of treating the mind and body with natural extracts. The design draws inspiration from the bold colors and eclectic use of space in the work of Tanadori Yakoo, a Japanese designer whose work became widely recognized in 1965. The warm oranges on the soap correlate to the soothing tones of cloves and ginger which brighten and nourish the skin. Meanwhile, the cool teals and greens on the herbal cream draw inspiration from the gentle white mulberry tree which has been used in Kampo medicine for centuries. The colors that I had chosen initially turned out to be too vibrant, and as my professor called them, “too radioactive”. In this fictional criterion collection box set, I chose three of their most prominent films; The Endless, Spring, and Resolution, and designed a series of covers that abstractly represent their themes of Cosmic Reckoning. The kaleidoscopic images serve as portals to represent the universe that Moorehead and Benson have created in their films. The movies rarely, if ever, show you a direct shot of the main “monster”, so this abstracted representation felt like an appropriate method of displaying their presence. The visuals were made using scanography, an experimental image making technique. I applied a small amount of acrylic paint to a sheet of acetate, then scanned it at a super high resolution. The raw scans were manipulated in Photoshop, and then furthered with hand drawn details in Procreate. The shimmering particles in the paint relates thematically to the film, as it deals with a pair of brothers who have been disillusioned by a cult. They become blinded by the benefits of the small occult camp, and don’t realize that the supernatural being that is worshiped by the group is drawing them into its own world. The green color was chosen to represent the warmth of the film, and the themes of growth and renewal. The Easter egg in this cover is the swirling tentacles in the center, which allude to my favorite scene in the movie. However, the ending is quite drastically different. The color choices are hard to explain without spoiling the film, but let’s just say that some characters meet a fiery end. In this commemorative book, I wanted to allude to the grass roots origin of the band by making a zine, which is certainly the most punk way of making books if I say so myself. In this book I sought to illustrate various fantastical creatures who each play an important role in their respective cultures. Each creature has its own unique features which often vary from tale to tale, and using my own artistic liberties I distilled them into a graceful illustration style that flowed with its respective letter form. On the cover of the book, I kept the illustration vague and generalized, as I did not want to favor any one creature over the other. It’s nice to meet you I’m Tanvi, and I love making cool stuff! I’ve formally studied Design, Art History, and Fine Art, although my exploration into art started with a 12 pack of crayons and the back of a paper my dad probably needed for work. I look for inspiration in everything, from old illustrated manuscripts to the packaging in dingy corner stores. My goal with my work is to communicate with clarity and grace, and quite frankly I just like to make things look pretty. In my free time I love watching sci-fi and thriller movies, listening to r&amp;b, and visiting every museum I can afford.
